Gaza Troop Deployment: US Defense Secretary Says It’s a Distant Prospect “`

President Donald Trump’s suggestion on Tuesday to assume control of the Gaza Strip has drawn considerable international condemnation.

Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth stated that the United States is far from deploying troops to Gaza, following President Trump’s proposal. Trump proposed the U.S. take over the Gaza Strip, rebuilding it after the recent conflict’s destruction, and reiterated his belief that Palestinians should be relocated to neighboring countries at those nations’ expense. When asked about potential U.S. troop deployment, Trump responded he would “do what is necessary.”

Secretary Hegseth subsequently appeared on Fox News to address the President’s comments on potential U.S. military involvement. He clarified that a deployment is a distant prospect, requiring extensive discussions among Trump, national security officials, and allies. Hegseth emphasized that Israel aims to complete its operations against Hamas and recover hostages, with U.S. support.

“Further actions will require more deliberation…The goal is to avoid deploying American troops if at all possible,” he explained.

Hegseth echoed Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu’s comments, saying, “As the Prime Minister said, think outside the box. Through such discussions, we can reshape the possibilities.” Netanyahu had previously praised Trump’s unconventional approach, suggesting it could be a historic turning point.

Trump’s proposal has faced widespread international criticism. The Palestinian leadership has denounced it as “a serious breach of international law,” while neighboring Arab nations, including Iran, Jordan, and Egypt, have advocated for Palestinians to remain in Gaza.
