US.- Vermont Liquor and Lottery has announced that the state’s sports betting handle hit $21.8 million in March. This represents a 4.8 percent drop compared to the same month last year. Adjusted gross wagering revenue stood at $1.9 million, while total winnings amounted to $19.8 million.
Basketball led the market with a $9.6 million handle, followed by tennis ($1.8 million) and table tennis ($1.4 million). E-basketball generated $846,756 in handle, and soccer contributed $825,914.
Of the total handle, $15.2 million was wagered within Vermont and $6.6 million from outside the state. There were 9,781 active users in Vermont and 10,457 active users out of state. The total number of bets placed was 768,742: 588,155 in-state and 180,587 out-of-state.
Vermont bill aims to ban prediction markets
A bill recently filed in the Vermont House of Representatives proposes a ban on specific event contracts. The proposal has been referred to the Committee on Government Operations and Military Affairs.
Sponsored by Rep. Thomas Stevens, House Bill 913 would prohibit “prediction market securities or commodities related to the outcome of certain events.” The ban would cover prediction markets involving sports, contests, individuals, politics and campaigns, disasters, war, all-hazards situations, or death.
