The death toll from Friday’s 7.7 magnitude earthquake in Myanmar has risen to 1,002, according to state broadcaster MRTV.
The broadcaster stated on Saturday that the updated figures are from “all the earthquake-affected areas nationwide.”
Myanmar Now previously reported that at least 2,400 more individuals have been injured throughout the country.
Authorities had previously stated that the number of casualties is predicted to continue to rise as rescue operations are ongoing.
Earlier, Prime Minister Min Aung Hlaing visited Mandalay, a city severely impacted by the earthquake. MRTV reported that during his meeting with local officials, he “instructed them to carry out search and rescue operations as soon as possible and to take necessary measures” to help those affected.

The broadcaster also reported earlier that 1,591 homes, 670 monasteries, and 60 schools were damaged in and around Mandalay, situated approximately 17 kilometers from the earthquake’s epicenter.

Russia’s Emergencies Ministry announced Saturday that it has deployed two aircraft carrying approximately 120 rescuers to assist Myanmar in the earthquake’s aftermath.
The earthquake’s tremors were also felt in neighboring Thailand, where a skyscraper under construction in Bangkok collapsed. Authorities reported at least 10 fatalities, 16 injuries, and 101 individuals remaining missing as a result of the disaster.
The Chinese embassy in Myanmar announced the arrival of a 37-member rescue team. Indian Foreign Minister S. Jaishankar stated on X that New Delhi dispatched a plane carrying emergency personnel, paramedics, and humanitarian supplies to Myanmar.
