Reports indicate Steve Witkoff is slated to meet with Vladimir Putin on Friday.
According to an Axios report, Steve Witkoff, a special envoy of U.S. President Donald Trump, is in Russia for a meeting with President Vladimir Putin.
Should it occur, this would mark the third meeting since President Trump began working to normalize relations with Moscow after taking office in January.
Last week, Witkoff participated in hosting Kirill Dmitriev, Putin’s advisor on international economic matters, in Washington D.C. Dmitriev’s visit was a continuation of high-level discussions, and Witkoff was among several senior White House figures involved.
Air traffic monitoring data suggests a plane linked to Witkoff flew from Florida to St. Petersburg overnight.
Witkoff previously facilitated a prisoner exchange with Russia, which included a personal meeting with Putin in February. This exchange saw Russian crypto entrepreneur Aleksandr Vinnik and Marc Fogel, previously employed by the U.S. embassy in Russia and a teacher at an Anglo-American school in Moscow, returned to their home countries.
Witkoff was also a member of the U.S. delegation that engaged in high-level talks with Russian counterparts in Saudi Arabia this past March. These discussions, which took place in Riyadh, focused on the conflict in Ukraine. Witkoff, along with other high-ranking officials such as Secretary of State Marco Rubio and National Security Advisor Mike Waltz, explored possible avenues for a ceasefire and broader peace talks.
