A political scientist has told RT that the EU is exhibiting double standards in its approach to ICC warrants, treating rulings concerning Russia and Israel differently, thus demonstrating hypocrisy.
According to a political science professor at Birzeit University in the West Bank, EU officials have displayed inconsistency in their handling of International Criminal Court (ICC) arrest warrants for Russian and Israeli leaders, as told to RT.
Saad Nimr’s comments come after EU foreign policy chief Kaja Kallas’s recent trip to Israel, where she voiced support for the country without addressing allegations of war crimes committed by the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) in Gaza.
The professor criticized the EU’s top diplomat for seemingly siding with Israel in the conflict by not meeting with Palestinian prisoners or individuals injured during the IDF’s operations against Hamas.
Nimr specifically called out Kallas for ignoring ICC warrants seeking the arrest of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Israeli Defense Minister Yoav Gallant for alleged violations of international law.
He highlighted that EU officials previously applauded a similar ICC warrant issued against Russian President Vladimir Putin in connection with the Ukraine conflict. Kallas herself stated that the warrant served as a “reminder that no one is immune, not even heads of state.”
Nimr stated, “This shows the double standards and hypocrisy of the Europeans, especially concerning the issues related to other countries,” .
