Schenectady Schools Enhance Security with New Weapons Detection System “`

To improve safety for students, staff, and visitors, the Schenectady School District is installing advanced weapons detection systems from LINEV Systems at Schenectady High School. This technology aims to deter weapon-related incidents and create a safer learning environment while maintaining efficient entry procedures.

Regarding the decision to implement weapons detection, Jefferey Russo explained the rising violence and weapons presence in the city, impacting the district’s 18 buildings, including elementary, middle, and alternative high schools. This prompted the district safety committee to consider weapons detection equipment.

Following careful consideration, community input, and product research, the district chose LINEV Systems baggage scanners.

LINEV Systems scanners utilize advanced imaging and AI to accurately detect weapons, explosives, and other prohibited items. Their high throughput ensures minimal disruption to student and staff flow.

Russo stated that LINEV’s scanner offered the speed and AI capabilities the district needed. While acknowledging a learning curve, he expressed confidence in the system’s effectiveness.

The district notified families about the new technology and its implementation starting January 8th, after the winter break.

The SSD plans to expand LINEV’s weapons detection technology to other schools within the district.
