Houston, Texas Apr 23, 2025 – Houston-based entrepreneur, non-profit head, and community advocate Robert Slater announced his candidacy today for the U.S. House of Representatives in Texas’s 18th Congressional District. Slater, citing his local ties and leadership experience, aims to offer the district a bold, inclusive, and solution-oriented approach.
“Houston is my home. I built my businesses, raised my family, and championed positive change here,” Slater stated. “I am running for Congress to give our district a representative who is present, listens to the community, and achieves tangible results.”
Slater owns Slate Bar & Grill, a well-known Houston restaurant celebrated for its welcoming environment and community-focused events. He also established the Global PEACEMEAL Foundation, a non-profit dedicated to youth empowerment, conflict resolution, and global peace initiatives.
Leveraging his business and humanitarian experience, Slater intends to promote policies that broaden economic opportunities, support small businesses, invest in education, reform the criminal justice system, and strengthen the social safety net.
“This campaign prioritizes public service, not political ambition,” Slater added. “We need leaders who understand the daily challenges faced by Houstonians and are ready to work hard to improve conditions.”
The campaign will officially commence with a kickoff event on [insert date], where Slater will present his complete policy platform and introduce his team. The campaign is expected to focus on grassroots mobilization, community involvement, and building alliances across different communities.
