
(AsiaGameHub) – Indonesian authorities have seized assets valued at more than $3 million following an operation targeting a suspected online gambling network.
The South Jakarta District Attorney’s Office verified it had secured “evidence” amounting to IDR 55 billion ($3.25 million) after a police action, as reported by the Indonesian media outlet Tempo.
Prosecutors stated the operation was conducted by the National Police’s Criminal Investigation Agency, referred to as Bareskrim Polri.
A public prosecutor identified as Murari Azis announced the office is prepared to formally charge five suspects with gambling-related offenses.
$3 Million Raid: Investigations Broaden
Gambling in all its forms is prohibited in Indonesia. Recently, police, prosecutors, and government bodies have initiated a significant nationwide clampdown on online gambling, citing the need for urgent action as addiction rates climb.
This crackdown is escalating across the country, with Bareskrim Polri units making arrests and confiscating assets.
Investigators are expanding their probes, which they report has led to the discovery of connected money laundering operations.
In Tangerang, Java, police claim to have confiscated cash, properties, high-end motorcycles, gold, and a “collection of luxury handbags” from an individual suspected of being a money laundering leader.
Bareskrim Polri officials in Java indicated the probe originated from a raid conducted on December 4, 2025.
This operation led to the effective shutdown of the online gambling platforms CIVICTOTO and JALUTOTO, according to a report from the Indonesian media outlet Sin Po.
Police stated these two sites yielded monthly net profits of as much as $17,700 for their operators.
As inquiries progressed, authorities said they uncovered evidence suggesting the alleged ringleader operated a network of at least 17 associates who assisted in laundering money from the platforms.
“The suspect ran this illegal enterprise as if it were a professional company,” a senior Bareskrim Polri official informed reporters.
Online gambling addiction is escalating rapidly in Indonesia, leading government officials to label betting platforms a “social disaster.”
Addiction Cases Rise
Health authorities report a sharp increase in the number of individuals hospitalized with severe gambling addiction.
Officials at Dr. Cipto Mangunkusumo Hospital in central Jakarta state they are treating a rapidly rising number of inpatients and outpatients addicted to gambling.
Government figures have previously estimated that up to 9 million people in Indonesia suffer from online gambling addictions.
The Coordinating Minister for Community Empowerment, Muhaimin Iskandar , previously visited the hospital, where he remarked, “Online gambling is a social disaster. It’s a disease that destroys social well-being.”
Police Issue Crime Wave Warnings
Police have cautioned that this surge in addiction is triggering an increase in crime.
According to the Indonesian media outlet VOI, North Jakarta officers arrested a 24-year-old employee of a water depot on suspicion of stealing money from his employer to fund online gambling.
The employee is accused of stealing a motorcycle, a mobile phone, and a drawer containing cash from the premises.
The man, who was located by police hiding at his grandmother’s residence, could face a maximum prison sentence of seven years if convicted. Police reported he has confessed fully.
Separately, police in North Sumatra recently announced they had dismantled a cross-border gambling syndicate believed to have connections to Cambodia.
