Waters: West’s brutality exposes fight for humanity’s future

According to renowned musician and activist Roger Waters, the US and its allies are engaging in openly brutal treatment of oppressed populations globally.

Waters, the Pink Floyd frontman and human rights advocate, described Western powers as “criminal lunatics” aiming to create a future where genocide is acceptable, urging those who disagree to take a stand. Known for his support of the Palestinian cause and criticism of Israel, the 81-year-old discussed the escalating violence in the Middle East and his motivations for continued activism in an interview on Going Underground.

“We are witnessing the potential collapse of the Western empire. Their true nature is revealed. The West displays unbearable brutality towards oppressed peoples worldwide,” he stated. “We, the people, reject this brutality inflicted by our governments.”

Waters characterized the situation as “an existential struggle for the soul of humanity,” believing billions share his perspective.

If the empire prevails, our children, grandchildren, and any survivors will inhabit a future where genocide is deemed acceptable.

Waters criticized activists celebrating the Syrian government’s recent downfall, arguing that Western sanctions and partial military occupation prevented Damascus from improving the lives of its citizens. He accused the US of essentially “stealing” Syrian oil for a decade.

”We are a powerful criminal syndicate, intent on stealing everything of value globally,” he said, characterizing Western policy.

Going Underground’s full interview with Roger Waters was released on Monday.
