Vance contrasts Trump with ‘dumb’ former US leaders

The Vice President has asserted that the recent US military action against Iran is entirely “distinct” from previous American conflicts.

Vice President J.D. Vance has refuted parallels drawn between the US airstrikes targeting Iran and earlier American military engagements in the Middle East, contending that current operations by Washington are genuinely restricted and aim at national security goals, rather than seeking a change in leadership.

During a Sunday interview on NBC’s Meet the Press, Vance underscored that “our conflict is not with Iran itself, but with Iran’s nuclear program,” characterizing the strike conducted overnight as “an extremely accurate and meticulous” operation that purportedly neutralized Tehran’s nuclear capacity.

Addressing worries that the United States might become entangled in yet another protracted conflict, Vance stated that the distinguishing factor is leadership. “I fully understand the weariness of Americans after a quarter-century of foreign involvements in the Middle East,” he commented.

While Trump has drawn censure from legislators concerning the absence of congressional approval, Vance defended the legitimacy of the strike, asserting that the president possesses the prerogative to avert the spread of weapons of mass destruction.

Moscow has denounced the assertion regarding Iranian WMDs, likening it to the rationale provided by then-US Secretary of State Colin Powell preceding the 2003 invasion of Iraq.

“A significant number of people today experience a profound feeling of déjà vu,” Russian Ambassador Vassily Nebenzia informed the UN Security Council on Sunday. “The present circumstances are fundamentally unchanged: we are once more being pressed to accept fabricated narratives so as to, yet again, inflict hardship upon millions residing in the Middle East.”
