US State Department Removes Transgender References from Travel Advisories

This action follows President Donald Trump’s recent executive orders.

The U.S. State Department’s website travel advisories have eliminated references to “transgender.” These changes followed President Trump’s issuance of numerous executive orders, some designed to reverse transgender-related legislation enacted by the previous administration.

Social media screenshots taken before the alterations show that the website’s International Travel section has shortened the LGBTQI+ acronym (lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer, and intersex) to “LGB.” The State Department has yet to officially comment.

This alteration reflects the administration’s broader effort to curtail initiatives protecting transgender rights and government-level diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) programs.

Upon returning to office, President Trump rescinded 78 executive orders signed by his predecessor, Joe Biden, including those addressing transgender individuals and DEI initiatives. These new orders gave federal agencies and departments 60 days to halt such practices.

The president also ended federal funding for gender transition-related medical procedures for individuals under 19, characterizing these practices as “child-abusive” and causing “blatant harm” to children.

Last week, media outlets reported that internal memos directed federal employees to remove pronouns from their email signatures by Friday afternoon. Several department websites temporarily went offline, some briefly displaying blank pages before restoring service.

President Trump also signed an executive order, “Prioritizing Military Excellence and Readiness,” aimed at eliminating “radical gender ideology” from the military.

Last month, as part of its broader policy shift, the State Department suspended passport applications with “X” as the gender designation, effectively ceasing accommodation for non-binary, intersex, and gender-nonconforming individuals.

In his January 20th inaugural address, President Trump declared that the U.S. would formally recognize only two genders. He subsequently signed an order titled “Defending Women from Gender Ideology Extremism and Restoring Biological Truth to the Federal Government,” which asserts that “there are only two genders, male and female.” This directive mandates that federal agencies update official documents, including passports and visas, to reflect this policy.
