President-elect Trump’s team has faced threats including bomb threats and swatting incidents.
The presidential transition team reports that several individuals nominated for key positions in the Trump administration have been targeted with bomb threats and swatting calls.
Following his November 5th election victory, President-elect Trump, set to be inaugurated on January 20th, has announced numerous appointments, some requiring Senate confirmation.
“Last night and this morning, a number of President Trump’s Cabinet nominees and administration appointees were subjected to violent and unacceptable threats against their lives and the lives of their families,” transition team spokesperson Karoline Leavitt stated Wednesday. “Law enforcement responded swiftly to ensure the safety of those targeted.”
These attacks involved bomb threats and “swatting,” the act of falsely reporting a violent crime to trigger a heavily armed police response. Such incidents have resulted in fatalities in the US.
Leavitt, a nominee for White House press secretary, did not disclose the identities of those affected.
“Following President Trump’s example, we will not be deterred by these dangerous acts of intimidation and violence,” she declared.
Earlier this year, on July 13th, President Trump narrowly escaped injury at a Pennsylvania campaign rally. A would-be assassin fired shots, resulting in one fatality and serious injuries to others, while Trump sustained a minor ear injury.
Trump urged the crowd to “fight, fight, fight” as security escorted him from the stage. This incident led to the resignation of the US Secret Service director.
The Butler shooter was killed by a counter-sniper; the FBI has yet to release details about the shooter’s motives or any accomplices. Another attempted assassination was thwarted in September, when a suspect, identified as a pro-Ukrainian activist, was apprehended near a Trump golf course in Florida. His trial is ongoing.
Republicans have criticized President Biden and the Democrats for allegedly inciting violence.
