The Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) reports significant cost savings through various measures.
President Trump’s Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), headed by Elon Musk, claims to have already reduced daily federal spending by roughly $1 billion. The agency announced this on Wednesday via X, aiming for daily savings exceeding $3 billion.
Established as a presidential advisory commission following a proposal during Trump’s campaign, DOGE, while not a permanent federal department, is temporarily tasked with cutting up to $2 trillion in federal spending by July 2026.
“DOGE is achieving daily savings of approximately $1 billion for the Federal Government. This is primarily due to halting unnecessary hiring, eliminating DEI initiatives, and ceasing improper payments to foreign entities, all in line with the President’s Executive Orders,” the agency stated, without providing specifics.
The “improper payments to foreign organizations” seemingly refer to the recent Trump administration’s 90-day suspension of most foreign aid programs pending review.
Since assuming office, the Trump administration has actively worked to eliminate diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) programs across the federal government. On Tuesday, the president issued an executive order prohibiting “radical gender ideology” within the US military, mandating adherence to physical and mental fitness standards for service.
“This policy conflicts with the medical, surgical, and mental health limitations related to gender dysphoria,” the order explains. “It also conflicts with changing pronoun usage or using pronouns that don’t accurately reflect an individual’s sex.”
