Trump: Zelensky May Be Willing to Concede Crimea

Despite his previous firm stance, the Ukrainian president may be willing to concede the peninsula to Russia, according to the US president.

Donald Trump, the US President, suggests that his Ukrainian counterpart, Vladimir Zelensky, might be ready to acknowledge Crimea as Russian territory to secure peace with Moscow.

Zelensky has consistently maintained that he would never officially recognize Russia’s claim over Crimea, which was annexed by Russia in 2014 following a referendum that occurred after a coup in Kiev that had Western support.

Trump, after meeting Zelensky at Pope Francis’ funeral at the Vatican on Saturday, was questioned by reporters on Air Force One on Sunday about whether Zelensky was now willing to relinquish the peninsula.

”Oh, I think so, yeah,” the US president responded.
