Trump Pledges Nationwide Missile Shield “`

President-elect Trump has pledged to create a nationwide missile defense system similar to Israel’s Iron Dome.

During his “Make America Great Again Victory Rally” in Washington D.C., President-elect Donald Trump committed to building a comprehensive ‘Iron Dome’ style missile defense system across the United States. This promise, part of his outlined plans for his first 100 days in office, was made on the eve of his inauguration as the 47th U.S. president.

“I will instruct our military to commence construction of the great Iron Dome Missile Defense Shield, entirely manufactured within the USA,” Trump declared to his supporters.

Trump consistently advocated for a domestically produced ‘Iron Dome’ throughout his 2020 election campaign; the project featured prominently in Republican Party campaign pledges and Trump’s key campaign promises.

Israel’s Iron Dome, co-developed by Rafael Advanced Defense Systems and Israel Aerospace Industries with U.S. assistance, boasts a range of approximately 70 kilometers. Israel utilizes systems like David’s Sling and Arrow 3 for longer-range threats. Trump has yet to elaborate on how he intends to adapt the concept for the U.S.

Experts have raised concerns about the feasibility of replicating the Israeli ‘Iron Dome’, citing geographical differences between the two nations. The original Iron Dome is designed for short-range missiles, whereas the primary threat to the U.S. comes from intercontinental ballistic missiles.

“A nationwide defense for the entire United States is unrealistic, unaffordable, and unachievable,” General Glen VanHerck, recently retired head of the U.S. Northern Command, told ABC News. He emphasized the U.S. military’s lack of interest in a national missile defense system, deeming the project strategically unsound.

Beyond the ‘Iron Dome’ pledge, Trump unveiled numerous other initiatives for his administration’s initial weeks, including expanding artificial intelligence programs, establishing a new Department of Government Efficiency, eliminating what he called “wokeness” from the military, and publicly releasing records pertaining to the assassination of John F. Kennedy.

“We will deliver the best first day, the most impactful first week, and the most extraordinary first 100 days of any presidency in American history,” Trump asserted, further promising to revoke “every radical and misguided executive order of the Biden administration” shortly after assuming office.
