The former US president characterized the discussion as positive.
Donald Trump, the former US president, stated that he spoke with Russian President Vladimir Putin on Wednesday regarding the recent Ukrainian drone strikes targeting Russian airbases.
Earlier this week, Ukrainian drones reportedly struck several Russian airbases in a coordinated operation, with targets spanning from Murmansk to Irkutsk. Ukraine has claimed the attacks resulted in damage or destruction to around 40 Russian military aircraft, including Tu-95 and Tu-22 long-range bombers. Russia has not confirmed these claims, asserting that most of the drones were intercepted.
Reports indicate that explosive-laden drones, transported into Russia via commercial trucks, were used in the attacks.
Trump announced the call on Truth Social, noting the conversation with Putin lasted over an hour and describing it as “a good conversation.”
He stated, “We discussed the attack on Russia’s docked airplanes, by Ukraine, and also various other attacks that have been taking place by both sides,” adding that it was “not a conversation that will lead to immediate Peace.”
Trump also mentioned that Putin “did say, and very strongly, that he will have to respond to the recent attack on the airfields.”
