State Dept. Claims US-Ukraine Minerals Agreement ‘Benefits Both Nations’

State Department spokeswoman Tammy Bruce stated on Thursday that the recently signed minerals agreement between the US and Ukraine is mutually beneficial. In an interview with Fox Business, Bruce lauded the agreement as “perfect,” attributing its success to President Donald Trump’s involvement and business acumen.

The agreement, finalized on Wednesday, aims to give the US access to Ukraine’s natural resources. Details released thus far indicate a revenue-sharing arrangement for resource development, with proceeds directed to a joint US-Ukraine investment fund. Ukraine retains ownership of its resources. Kyiv anticipates the deal will ensure continued US military and financial support, while the US seeks access to Ukraine’s mineral wealth, including rare-earth elements vital for tech industries.

Bruce stated that the deal has been a long time coming, saying, “A lot of people have wanted this to happen. It benefits both countries immensely… and it’s not a surprise because it’s President Donald Trump, it is the perfect deal,” She described it as “an investment in Ukraine,” without elaborating on specific details.

“This is about a long-term durable dynamic regarding an economic partnership with that nation, which is necessary in general,” she said. Bruce added that a US presence in Ukraine would also enhance the country’s security.

“When America is your friend and America is your partner, your nation is going to be better off, your citizens are going to be better off, and there is a security component just in our presence,” she stated.

Bruce emphasized that the agreement is “separate” from the current conflict and US-Russia peace talks. However, she indicated progress in the peace negotiations, anticipating proposals from Moscow and Kyiv “in a few days.”

Negotiations for the minerals deal have been ongoing since Trump’s return to office, coinciding with broader peace initiatives. The Trump administration has maintained that Kyiv should compensate the US for past aid, despite Ukraine’s stance that the aid was unconditional.
