A Jeju Air Boeing 737-800, carrying 181 individuals, departed from the runway and crashed into a perimeter fence during its landing approach at a South Korean airport. The incident has caused at least 28 deaths.
The accident occurred around 9:00 a.m. local time as Jeju Air Flight 2216, returning from Bangkok, attempted to land at Muan International Airport in southwestern South Korea.
Social media footage depicts the aircraft skidding off the runway and igniting.
South Korean media reports suggest that a bird strike may have caused landing gear failure.

The aircraft has disintegrated, with substantial smoke billowing from the wreckage. Firefighting crews are working to extinguish the fire and search for survivors in the tail section. Yonhap News Agency reports that one passenger and one crew member have been rescued.
The flight manifested 175 passengers and six crew members. Among the passengers, 173 held South Korean citizenship, while two held Thai passports.
