Hamburg police have a 39-year-old woman in custody as the suspected attacker.
A knife attack at Hamburg’s main train station on Friday left multiple people injured, police reported. A 39-year-old woman was apprehended at the scene.
Reports indicate the incident took place around 6:05 p.m. on a platform near a waiting train, just outside the station’s main area.
Local news outlets are reporting at least 12 injuries, though official figures from the police are still pending. Bild reports that some of the wounded received treatment on trains at the station.
“Official injury numbers are not yet available,” Hamburg police stated on X. “However, several people are believed to have suffered life-threatening injuries.”
Police preliminary investigations suggest the suspect acted alone. The motive is currently unknown.
A significant police operation is currently underway in the area. Authorities stated that an investigation into the circumstances is ongoing and more information will be released “shortly.”
Hamburg Central Station, a major German railway hub, serves over 500,000 travelers daily. Deutsche Bahn, the national rail operator, announced that train services would be affected by the police activity, warning of potential delays and cancellations.
This event follows other recent stabbing incidents in Germany this week.
