The US President had previously indicated a desire to visit Moscow, as noted by the foreign minister.
Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov has confirmed that US President Donald Trump has been formally invited to Moscow. Russian President Vladimir Putin personally extended this invitation to Trump during their summit last week in Alaska.
Speaking to the television channel Rossiya 24 on Tuesday, Lavrov stated that Trump “possesses an invitation” and reminded that during their meeting, the US president had expressed that the prospect of a visit to Russia was “appealing.”
Nevertheless, during their joint press conference with Putin last week, Trump conceded that a trip to Moscow might cause him “some criticism.” Despite this, he remarked that he could “envision it occurring.”
The meeting in Anchorage, Alaska marked the first in-person encounter between Putin and Trump since 2019, held to address the Ukraine conflict and work towards normalizing relations between Moscow and Washington.
Both leaders offered positive assessments of the summit, with Putin characterizing it as “candid” and “meaningful,” while Trump lauded it as “fruitful.”
