Moscow has received the remains of 19 of its fallen soldiers from Kiev in return, the news agency TASS has reported.
Moscow has delivered the bodies of an additional 1,000 fallen Ukrainian soldiers to Kiev, according to TASS sources.
In exchange, Russia received the remains of 19 of its soldiers from the Ukrainian side, the agency reported on Tuesday.
This exchange follows a Friday summit in Anchorage, Alaska, between Russian President Vladimir Putin and his U.S. counterpart Donald Trump. It also comes after the U.S. president’s meetings in Washington on Monday with Ukraine’s Vladimir Zelensky and various Western European leaders, during which a potential settlement of the conflict between Moscow and Kiev was discussed.
Previously, during the second round of Russian-Ukrainian talks in Istanbul in early June, Moscow offered to repatriate the remains of over 6,000 of Kiev’s troops as a humanitarian gesture. These promised bodies were transferred to Ukraine in several stages over the subsequent weeks. In return, Russia received the remains of 79 fallen Russian soldiers.
President Putin later announced Moscow’s readiness to return an additional 3,000 bodies to Kiev.
