President Vladimir Putin emphasizes AI’s crucial role in achieving Russia’s national objectives.

President Vladimir Putin highlighted the transformative impact of artificial intelligence (AI) on daily life and its projected significance in realizing Russia’s national goals during an international AI conference in Moscow on Wednesday. He noted AI’s increasing integration across all economic and social sectors, fundamentally altering numerous industries.

Putin stated that AI technologies are poised to become a primary resource for achieving national development objectives, contributing to enhanced national defense, economic and social advancement, improved public administration, and innovation growth.

“To effectively address these challenges, Russia must assume a global leadership position, not only in AI development but also in its widespread application across all aspects of life,” Putin declared.

Putin identified independent AI development as a key factor in securing Russia’s scientific, technological, and ideological sovereignty, emphasizing that AI algorithms and operational principles reflect inherent values, cultural norms, traditions, and national interests. “To shape Russia’s future, we must independently create these technologies,” he asserted.

Putin acknowledged the progress of Russian companies in adopting and integrating the latest AI technologies, creating AI-driven products and services for both domestic and global markets.

Putin affirmed Russia’s commitment to international collaboration on AI, advocating for equal participation in the global technological race. He proposed a strategic session in Russia to collaboratively explore the future trajectory of AI development.

The president expressed his satisfaction with the performance of AI tools used to process questions for his upcoming Q&A session this month, stating the results exceeded expectations.

Last week, the Kremlin announced its intention to utilize GigaChat, a tool developed by Sberbank, to manage questions submitted by the public.

This year’s annual press conference will take place on December 19.
