Putin Aide Discusses Potential Putin-Trump Summit

Yury Ushakov confirms Russia’s commitment to actively prepare for potential Putin-Trump talks.

Following high-level talks in Saudi Arabia, Putin’s top foreign policy advisor, Yury Ushakov, announced that Moscow and Washington are collaborating to arrange a meeting between Presidents Putin and Trump. These discussions in Riyadh, the first since the Ukraine conflict escalated in 2022, aimed at improving US-Russia relations and paving the way for peace negotiations in Ukraine.

Ushakov confirmed that the delegations discussed a possible Putin-Trump summit. Addressing a Bloomberg report suggesting a meeting as early as next week, he stated:

”That is unlikely,” Ushakov told Russia’s Channel One. He emphasized the need for significant preparatory work from both countries before a presidential meeting.

“We are prepared for this work, but it’s premature to discuss specific dates,” Ushakov added.

US National Security Advisor Mike Waltz similarly stated that no date is set for a Trump-Putin meeting, but both sides are dedicated to making it happen.

After a recent phone call with Putin, Trump indicated a potential “probably” upcoming in-person meeting with his Russian counterpart, possibly in Saudi Arabia.

Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov previously stated that no details concerning a Putin-Trump meeting have been finalized, highlighting the extensive preparation required.
