‘Punishment’ of Israel complete, no intention of further action – Tehran

Tehran, Iran, 2 June – IRNA – Iran says it has completed its “punishment” of Israel and has no intention of continuing any further action against the country.

“The Islamic Republic of Iran has completed its punishment of the Zionist regime and has no intention of continuing any further action against it,” Foreign Ministry Spokesman Bahram Qassemi said in a statement on Friday.

“The Islamic Republic of Iran has always emphasized that it is not seeking war with any country, including Israel,” Qassemi added. “However, Iran will not hesitate to defend itself against any aggression.”

Qassemi’s statement comes after Iran fired a series of missiles at Israeli positions in the Golan Heights on Thursday. The attack was in retaliation for an Israeli airstrike that killed seven Iranian military personnel in Syria earlier this week.

The exchange of fire between Iran and Israel has raised concerns about a wider conflict in the region. However, both sides have said they are not seeking war.

“We have no intention of starting a war,” Qassemi said. “But we will defend ourselves if we are attacked.”
