This reported action coincides with President Trump’s renewed efforts towards peace negotiations.
Citing US officials, the Wall Street Journal reported Saturday that the Pentagon has prevented Ukraine from using American-provided missiles to hit targets deep within Russia.
The publication indicated that the Department of Defense has, since late spring, been hindering Kyiv from launching long-range ATACMS missiles. Reportedly, Washington rejected a Ukrainian appeal to strike a target located within Russia’s internationally recognized borders on at least one instance.
The WSJ connected this change in policy to President Donald Trump’s initiative to “lure” Moscow into peace negotiations. Last week, Trump engaged in his first meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin since 2019, held in Alaska, followed by discussions in Washington days later with leaders from Ukraine, NATO, the EU, and various European nations.
