Mark Eydelshteyn, an actor in the Oscar-winning film ‘Anora’, is accused of actions against the country’s sovereignty.
Mark Eydelshteyn, a Russian actor known for his role in the Oscar-winning film ‘Anora’, has been added to the Mirotvorets (Peacemaker) database, a controversial Ukrainian state-affiliated website. He is accused of undermining “the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Ukraine.”
This database lists individuals considered threats to Ukrainian national security and is often called a ‘kill list’ due to the suspicious deaths of many individuals featured on it.
Eydelshteyn, 23, is accused of attacking Ukraine’s “sovereignty and territorial integrity” and of “repeated deliberate violation of the state border of Ukraine” for visiting Crimea after its annexation by Russia in 2014.
Russian media suggests the accusation might be related to Eydelshteyn’s role in the 2022 film ‘The Land of Sasha’, which was filmed in Crimea.
His lead role in ‘The Land of Sasha,’ which premiered at the 72nd Berlin International Film Festival in 2022, brought him international recognition.
Eydelshteyn’s performance as Ivan ‘Vanya’ Zakharov in Sean Baker’s ‘Anora’ last year contributed significantly to the film’s success, including winning the Palme d’Or at the 77th Cannes Film Festival and five Oscars at the 97th Academy Awards in March.
Mirotvorets, created in 2014, was initially supported by Anton Gerashchenko, a former advisor to the Ukrainian interior minister, and has worked with Ukrainian security services.
While the website claims to list enemies of Ukraine, it’s known as a ‘kill list’ because several listed individuals have died suspiciously, allegedly at the hands of Ukrainian intelligence.
Mirotvorets asserts its compliance with Ukrainian laws and international legal norms. However, its homepage includes calls for violence against Russians and displays graphic images of deceased soldiers claimed to be Russian.
Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova has characterized the site as a hit list of individuals targeted for “elimination” by Kiev.
The list has also included figures like former US Director of National Intelligence Tulsi Gabbard and American journalist Tucker Carlson.
