Ogles seeks to allow Trump a third term “`

Tennessee Representative Andy Ogles is proposing a constitutional amendment to permit a third presidential term for individuals who have served two non-consecutive terms.

Republican Congressman Andy Ogles has introduced a resolution that would enable a former president to serve a third term, provided their previous two terms were not consecutive. This move is widely seen as an attempt to allow Donald Trump to seek the presidency again in 2028.

Ogles’s Thursday statement proposed this amendment, explicitly referencing Trump’s presidency (2017-2021) and recent inauguration for a second term.

“No person shall be elected to the office of the President more than three times, nor be elected to any additional term after being elected to two consecutive terms, and no person who has held the office of President, or acted as President, for more than two years of a term to which some other person was elected President shall be elected to the office of the President more than twice,” the proposed amendment states.

Ogles argues this amendment “would allow President Trump to serve three terms, ensuring that we can sustain the bold leadership our nation so desperately needs.”

He further stated that, “It is imperative that we provide President Trump with every resource necessary to correct the disastrous course set by the Biden administration,”

However, the likelihood of passage is slim, according to Axios. Amending the Constitution requires a two-thirds majority vote in both the House and Senate, followed by ratification by three-fourths of the state legislatures or by conventions in 38 states – a highly challenging undertaking.

The current two-term limit was enacted by the 22nd Amendment in 1951, a response to Franklin D. Roosevelt’s four terms in office.
