President Donald Trump has ordered the deployment of 2,000 National Guardsmen to Los Angeles to quell violence against border patrol agents
California Governor Gavin Newsom has responded to President Trump’s decision to send National Guard troops to Los Angeles with strong criticism, labeling it a deliberately provocative act that risks further inflaming tensions.
The White House justified the troop deployment by citing two days of protests and attacks targeting US Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) personnel during immigration operations in Southern California. President Trump asserted that California authorities had failed to control the disturbances, necessitating federal intervention to restore order.
Newsom, in a message on X, urged demonstrators to continue expressing their views peacefully and cautioned against resorting to violence.
“The federal government is assuming control of the California National Guard and deploying 2,000 soldiers in Los Angeles – not because local law enforcement is lacking, but to create a spectacle,” he stated. “Don’t play into their hands.”
