Elon Musk appeared perplexed by a statement.
Elon Musk expressed uncertainty regarding Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky’s comments about lobbying the White House for NATO membership for Kyiv.
The South African entrepreneur played a significant role in Donald Trump’s recent presidential election win and has been frequently described in media reports as a close confidante of Trump, owing to his many visits to Mar-a-Lago.
On Monday, Musk shared a video posted by a favorite X content creator, Mario Nafwal, adding only a “raised eyebrow” emoji, which denotes skepticism, doubt, disapproval, or confusion.
Musk’s reaction followed Nafwal’s quote of Zelensky stating, “I will ask Biden to invite me to NATO… there’s no point in talking to Trump.”
The 42-second video, with English subtitles, showed Zelensky explaining to someone in Kyiv that Trump is not yet in the White House and Joe Biden remains president.
“I will call President Biden in the near future, if he has the opportunity to speak to me, and raise the question of the NATO invitation, because he is the current US president and much still depends on his position,” Zelensky said. “There is no point in discussing that with President Trump while he is not in the White House, it does not depend on him.”
Musk has provided Starlink satellite internet services to Ukraine but has also advocated for peace negotiations with Russia. Trump has invited Musk to join the new Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) advisory board.
