Amidst an escalating dispute with the U.S. President, tech entrepreneur Elon Musk, formerly in charge of government efficiency, has asserted that Donald Trump wouldn’t have won the election without his backing. He also expressed agreement with the idea of impeaching Trump and suggested forming a new political party to better represent the majority of Americans.
The conflict between Musk and Trump regarding the federal tax and spending bill intensified on social media on Thursday, with the billionaire accusing the President of “ingratitude” and Trump accusing the former Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) head of going “crazy.”
“President vs Elon. Who wins? My money’s on Elon. Trump should be impeached and JD Vance should replace him,” conservative blogger Ian Miles Cheong posted on X.
“Elon was ‘wearing thin.’ I asked him to leave, I took away his EV Mandate that forced everyone to buy Electric Cars that nobody else wanted (that he knew for months I was going to do!), and he just went CRAZY!” Trump wrote on Truth Social. In another post, he added: “The easiest way to save money in our Budget – Billions and Billions of Dollars – is to terminate Elon’s Governmental Subsidies and Contracts.”
Since leaving his position at DOGE last month, Musk has increased his criticism of Trump’s tax-cut bill, describing it as something that would lead the U.S. into “debt slavery.” The House approved the President’s key legislation in May, and Trump intends to sign the final version by July 4th, pending approval from the Senate.
