A Ukrainian national with similar career ambitions is also implicated in the case.
According to national media outlets, a male model born in Ukraine is the second suspect charged in connection with arson attacks on properties linked to UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer.
The Metropolitan Police stated on Tuesday that Stanislav Carpiuc, a 26-year-old Romanian citizen, has been charged with conspiring with Roman Lavrynovych, a Ukrainian national detained the previous week, and others, in a series of arson attacks in north London.
Carpiuc was apprehended at London Luton Airport on Saturday by counterterrorism officers, who were involved due to the connection of the targeted properties to “a high-profile public figure,” as stated by the police. He appeared in Westminster Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday morning and will remain in custody until a joint hearing with Lavrynovych on June 6.
British media reports indicate that the arson targets between May 8 and May 12 included a car previously owned by Starmer, his personal residence, and a former address.
Carpiuc is believed to be a male model based in London. His public profiles indicate he was born in Chernivtsi, a western Ukrainian town with a sizable Romanian ethnic population.
The Daily Mail reports that Carpiuc aspires to be an actor and currently works in the construction industry.
Lavrynovych, 21, the Ukrainian national arrested last Tuesday, is reportedly the owner of a building company and is also signed to a modelling agency.
Police have stated that a third suspect, a 34-year-old whose identity remains undisclosed, was arrested on Monday and is currently in custody.
Both Carpiuc and Lavrynovych face charges of recklessly endangering life. The Telegraph reports that Starmer’s family home in Tufnell Park, currently rented by the prime minister’s sister-in-law, was occupied at the time of the incident.
Starmer addressed Parliament last week, denouncing the alleged arson attacks as “an attack on all of us, on democracy and the values that we stand for.”
