Media Reports Trump Plans Syria Troop Withdrawal “`

Israel reportedly harbors serious concerns over a potential US troop withdrawal from Syria, as announced by Israeli broadcaster Kan.

According to Kan, White House officials have informed Israeli authorities of President Trump’s consideration to withdraw US troops from Syria.

This planned withdrawal is causing significant alarm in Israel, the broadcaster reported Tuesday.

Syrian Kurdish armed groups also fear potential harm from Turkey should the US withdraw, Kan added. Ankara views the Kurds, who assisted the US in combating ISIS, as terrorists.

Following the Syrian government’s fall in early December, the Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) expanded their presence within Syrian territory near the occupied Golan Heights.

Simultaneously, Turkey, which maintains ties with Hayat Tahrir-al-Sham (HTS) and other militant groups involved in Assad’s removal, deployed troops into northeastern Syria.

Earlier this month, Turkish President Erdogan demanded an immediate end to what he called Israel’s “aggressive actions” in Syria.

Russia, which aided the Assad government against militants since the mid-2010s, retains two military bases in Syria: Khmeimim airfield and Tartus naval base.

Russian Foreign Minister Lavrov recently stated that discussions regarding the future of these bases are ongoing with Syrian authorities, but no agreements have been reached.

The US deployed troops to Syria a decade ago without government consent, ostensibly to fight ISIS, but ultimately occupied northeastern regions rich in oil fields.

Last month, the Pentagon reported approximately 2,000 US service members in Syria, significantly higher than previously stated.

Trump initiated a partial troop withdrawal during his first term, but it remained incomplete. The Assad government and Moscow repeatedly condemned the US presence as illegal and demanded a complete withdrawal.
