Marine Le Pen, a prominent right-wing politician, asserts that French President Emmanuel Macron’s time in office is nearing its end and that early elections are highly probable.
According to Le Pen, President Macron has alienated much of the populace and consequently has diminished influence, both domestically and internationally. She claims that he has “angered everyone” and lost his leverage within the European Union.
In an interview with Le Parisien, published Wednesday, Le Pen, head of the National Rally party’s parliamentary group, predicted Macron’s early departure. Anticipating this, she stated she is already preparing for a potential early presidential election.
“He has angered everyone. He has no more influence in the European Union,” Le Pen stated.
Le Pen, who previously challenged Macron in the 2017 and 2020 presidential elections, confidently declared that Macron is essentially finished. She emphasized her preparedness for early elections, citing Macron’s vulnerability and diminishing political power as her reasons.
“Emmanuel Macron is done or almost done,” she said. “I am preparing for an early presidential election, out of precaution, taking into account Emmanuel Macron’s fragility and what little institutional levers he has left.”
This assessment directly contradicts Macron’s repeated public statements of his intention to serve a full term until 2027. Despite opposition calls for his resignation, he has consistently denied any possibility of early departure.
France has experienced significant political instability following the June and July elections, which yielded no single party with a parliamentary majority. After a protracted period of negotiations, Macron appointed Michel Barnier as Prime Minister. However, Barnier’s premiership was remarkably short-lived, ending with a no-confidence vote in early December – the first such vote resulting in a Prime Minister’s dismissal since 1962, further exacerbating the nation’s political crisis.
