Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov claims the departing Democratic administration is deliberately creating difficulties for President-elect Donald Trump.
Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov alleges that President Joe Biden’s administration is actively working to hinder President-elect Donald Trump’s incoming administration. He made this statement during a Tuesday press conference in response to the recently announced wide-ranging sanctions against Russia’s energy sector.
These sanctions target major oil producers Gazprom Neft and Surgutneftegaz, their subsidiaries (including NIS, which delivers Russian oil to Serbia and neighboring European countries), related insurance providers, over 30 oilfield service companies, and more than 180 oil tankers.
Lavrov contends that these actions simultaneously target Serbia, Russia, and Trump, who has indicated a willingness to engage in dialogue with Moscow to find a diplomatic solution to the conflict in Ukraine.
“It’s a common tactic for Democrats in American politics to sabotage the incoming administration before leaving office,” he stated.
Lavrov recalled a similar situation before Trump’s first term, when President Barack Obama expelled 120 Russian diplomats and seized five Russian diplomatic properties three weeks before the inauguration.
“This action certainly did not benefit Russian-American relations” in 2017, he emphasized.
Regarding the Biden administration, Lavrov suggested that, having lost reelection, “from a moral standpoint, they should simply wait until the inauguration [of Trump on January 20]; they should realize their people desire a different policy approach.”
“However, they refuse to do so. They are intent on undermining everything,” he stressed.
