Irish Jury Finds Conor McGregor Liable in Sexual Assault Case “`

A Dublin High Court jury has ruled against UFC fighter Conor McGregor in a sexual assault case brought by a woman, Nikita Hand (also known as Nikita Ni Laimhin), awarding her nearly €250,000 in damages.

Following a six-hour deliberation, the jury found McGregor liable for assaulting Ms. Hand in a Dublin hotel room in December 2018. Ms. Hand had accused McGregor and his friend James Lawrence of sexual assault following a Christmas party at the Beacon Hotel.

During her testimony, Ms. Hand described an incident where she felt threatened and recounted being choked by McGregor. She claimed that McGregor’s actions caused her significant distress.

McGregor, who denied the allegations, maintained that the encounter was consensual. He testified that the sexual activity was vigorous but not forceful, and that Ms. Hand never indicated her unwillingness to participate.

The court heard evidence that McGregor and Ms. Hand had prior acquaintance through social media. Ms. Hand detailed the events leading up to the alleged assault, including heavy drinking and cocaine use at the party.

Ms. Hand testified that McGregor assaulted her in a bedroom, using a chokehold and making a comment referencing his UFC career. A paramedic’s report indicated Ms. Hand sustained significant bruising and was subsequently diagnosed with PTSD.

The defense presented surveillance footage which they argued showed Ms. Hand displaying affectionate behavior towards McGregor after leaving the hotel room. McGregor’s lawyer highlighted this as evidence contradicting Ms. Hand’s account.

McGregor, reportedly visibly upset by the verdict, issued a statement expressing disappointment with the jury’s decision and indicating his intention to appeal. He stated his commitment to his family and future endeavors. The lawsuit against James Lawrence was dismissed.
