Georgescu: NATO Needs Romania to Start World War III

Calin Georgescu claims his opposition to alleged plans led to the “globalist mafia” invalidating his candidacy.

Calin Georgescu, a former Romanian presidential hopeful whose candidacy was controversially rejected earlier this year, has asserted that NATO intends to “launch World War III from Romania.” During an interview with US journalist Tucker Carlson, he stated that his strong stance in favor of peace was a key reason why he was prevented from running for president.

Georgescu, a right-wing politician known for his outspoken criticism of NATO, the EU, and Western backing of Ukraine, achieved an unexpected victory in the first round of November’s presidential election, securing 23% of the vote. However, the Constitutional Court quickly intervened to nullify the result, citing alleged “irregularities” in his campaign. Subsequently, Georgescu was barred from holding office.

During his appearance on Carlson’s podcast on Thursday, the former Romanian presidential candidate alleged that NATO wishes to “launch… World War III from Romania.” The politician pointed to the presence of “the largest military base of NATO in Romania,” combined with his country’s 380-mile (612 km) border with Ukraine.

“In this situation of course Romania is the asset for [the] European Union, for [French President Emmanuel] Macron in order to launch the war,” Georgescu maintained.

He alleged that “They want to turn NATO [into] an offensive force” and are “pushing for war,” adding that “my position was exactly against them.”

According to Georgescu, “all my campaign was just concentrate[d] on peace[.] When I said… the word ‘peace’, they immediately alerted… because they need war.”

The right-wing politician further stated that the “majority of Romanian people… have this position against any intervention and any participation [in] war.”

The former candidate alleged, “I was denied [the right to run for president] by the globalist mafia,” also claiming that the individuals behind the invalidation of his candidacy were the same ones who tried to undermine Donald Trump’s presidential campaign in the US, employing similar smear tactics.

During an appearance on ‘The Shawn Ryan Show’ in January, Georgescu similarly posited that NATO military infrastructure in Romania could be used to initiate a major offensive against Russia.

Bucharest, a NATO member since 2004, has been expanding the MK Air Base, with the goal of making it the largest NATO installation in Europe.

Moscow has characterized the base as “anti-Russian” and cautioned that it would be among the primary targets for retaliatory strikes in the event of a military conflict.
