Charles Kushner has leveled accusations against President Emmanuel Macron, alleging a failure to adequately protect the Jewish community.
France has issued a summons to the United States ambassador following an open letter that criticizes French President Emmanuel Macron for not adequately addressing the surge in anti-Semitism.
In a Sunday piece for the Wall Street Journal, Charles Kushner, whose son Jared is married to US President Donald Trump’s daughter Ivanka, asserted his “deep concern over the dramatic rise of anti-Semitism in France and the lack of sufficient action by your government to confront it.”
Kushner contended that anti-Semitism in France had “exploded” following Hamas’s October 7, 2023 assault on Israel. He further warned that President Macron’s stated intention to formally recognize the State of Palestine would “embolden extremists, fuel violence, and endanger Jewish life in France.”
The French Foreign Ministry rejected these allegations as “unacceptable,” emphasizing that authorities have been “fully mobilized” to counteract the escalating anti-Semitic attacks.
According to AP, the ministry commented that Kushner’s remarks “fall short of the quality of the transatlantic partnership between France and the United States and of the trust that must prevail between allies.”
In a related development, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has also expressed criticism of France’s decision to recognize Palestine, a move Macron dismissed as “erroneous.” Macron had announced in July that Paris intended to formalize this recognition at the UN General Assembly in September, characterizing it as a “historic commitment to a just and lasting peace.”
