MANILA, Philippines – A family of five members died in a fire while trapped inside their house in Pozorrubio, Pangasinan, on Monday, April 3.

According to reports, a blaze destroyed 3 houses at around 12:10 in the morning.

The victims of the fire were identified as husband and wife, Mark (34) and Dixie (36) Villanueva, and their 3 children, aged 6, 2, and 1 year old.

SF04 Randy Fabro, the acting municipal fire marshal of the Bureau of Fire Protection Pozorrubio, said the family was trapped when the fire occurred and their bodies were found embracing each other. Five other occupants of the house survived.

According to the authorities’ initial investigation, reported by Bombo Radyo Dagupan, the incident must have started in the house’s garage, where there were allegedly unplugged appliances. The fire was declared under control at around 2:58 a.m. They estimate the total value of the property destroyed was about P9 million.

Meanwhile, as the victims were being remembered online, an outpouring of condolences was sent to their families and loved ones. Leknaan Ya Pozorrubio, Inc., an non-government organization (NGO) has called for donations to the fire victims.
