Carlson Accuses Biden Administration of Attempted Putin Assassination “`

Former Fox News host Tucker Carlson has alleged that the Biden administration attempted to assassinate Russian President Vladimir Putin during the Ukraine conflict, a claim he described as reckless.

In a recent interview with journalist Matt Taibbi, Carlson suggested that the potential declassification of government documents under President Trump has unnerved numerous current and former US officials due to the anticipated repercussions.

Carlson stated that a motive for this alleged assassination attempt was former Secretary of State Tony Blinken’s alleged strong advocacy for a full-scale war. He asserted, without providing evidence, “The Biden administration did [it], they tried to kill Putin.”

Carlson, who interviewed Putin last February, labeled the alleged plan “insane,” highlighting the significant risk to global security.

“Who takes over Russia? What happens to the nuclear arsenal in a country so complex that outsiders can’t even understand… That’s demented that you would even think about something like that,” he added, expressing concern about the unpredictable consequences of such an action.

US officials have consistently denied any attempts to assassinate Putin or other Russian leaders. However, a Newsweek report from September 2022 indicated that US defense officials had discussed a “decapitation strike” as a contingency plan should Russia utilize nuclear weapons in Ukraine. Russia has denied the existence of such a plan, stating there are no suitable targets in Ukraine for such a weapon.

Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov interpreted the reports of a “decapitation strike,” as “a threat to assassinate the head of the Russian state.”

“If such ideas are really being considered, those involved must carefully think about the possible consequences,” Lavrov warned.

In May 2023, Russia accused Ukraine of an attempted assassination of Putin using a drone strike on the Kremlin, claiming the drone was intercepted.

Ukraine denied involvement, and Secretary Blinken stated that the US had no prior knowledge of the incident, adding that Ukraine has the right to defend itself.
