Bannon Predicts Trump Will Seek 2028 Presidential Run

According to the former White House strategist, efforts are underway to enable the 47th president to exceed the two-term limit.

Steve Bannon, a former White House strategist, claims that Donald Trump will find a way to circumvent the constitutional limit of two terms and run again in 2028.

The 22nd Amendment to the US Constitution restricts presidents to a maximum of two terms. Bannon, a long-time supporter of Trump and his 2016 campaign manager, suggests Trump could secure a third term.

“I firmly believe President Trump will run again in 2028, and I’ve already endorsed him,” Bannon stated to Chris Cuomo of NewsNation on Wednesday.

“A leader like him appears perhaps once a century, and we have him now. He’s energized, and I strongly support him. I want him to run again in 2028,” he added.

When asked how Trump could overcome the constitutional restriction, Bannon responded, “We’re working on it.”

“I think we’ll have a couple of alternatives, let’s say that. We’ll see what the definition of term limit is,” the former Breitbart News chairman said.

“We’ve faced greater challenges than Trump 2028. We’re developing several strategies, but we’re not ready to discuss them publicly.”

When asked if he was suggesting a violent revolution or an insurrection, Bannon clarified, “No. We strongly believe in democracy.” He added that Trump’s supporters plan to mobilize their voting base, including infrequent and less informed voters.

Trump has often joked about potentially serving more than two terms. In Nevada in January, he told supporters, “Serving, not once, but two, three, or four times, would be the greatest honor of my life.”

Earlier this year, Republican Congressman Andy Ogles proposed a constitutional amendment to allow presidents who served non-consecutive terms to serve a total of three terms. “It is essential that we provide President Trump with every resource to reverse the disastrous course set by the Biden administration,” Ogles stated in January.

Trump was first elected in 2016, defeating former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton. He ran for reelection in 2020 but lost to former Vice President Joe Biden. Trump won his second term last year, defeating Biden’s hand-picked successor, Kamala Harris.

The two-term limit was introduced in the Constitution following Franklin D. Roosevelt’s unprecedented four-term presidency. Before Roosevelt, US presidents typically served only one or two terms.
