A two-state solution is the preferred method for resolving the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, according to a joint statement.
A coalition of Arab nations has denounced US President Donald Trump’s proposal to relocate Gazan Palestinians to Egypt and Jordan.
Trump recently described Gaza as a “demolition site” due to the Israeli-Hamas conflict, suggesting the optimal solution is to “clean out” the area and relocate its 2.3 million residents to alternative housing, potentially temporarily or permanently, with the assistance of Arab nations.
Following a meeting of high-level diplomats in Cairo, Egypt, Jordan, Saudi Arabia, the UAE, Qatar, the Palestinian Authority, and the Arab League issued a joint statement firmly rejecting the forced displacement of Palestinians.
Such actions, the statement warned, would destabilize the region, escalate the conflict, and undermine peace prospects.
The Arab nations expressed their willingness to collaborate with Trump to achieve a just and comprehensive Middle East peace based on the two-state solution.
They also urged international support for a comprehensive Gaza reconstruction plan to ensure Palestinians remain in their homeland.
Egyptian President Abdel Fattah el-Sissi and Jordan’s Foreign Minister Ayman Safadi previously voiced strong opposition to the relocation plan.
A similar proposal by the Biden administration following the October 2023 escalation was also rejected by Arab nations.
According to Gaza’s Health Ministry, 15 months of Israeli attacks have resulted in approximately 47,500 Palestinian deaths and over 111,500 injuries. UN data indicates that 90% of Gaza’s population has been displaced.
Israel launched its military operation in response to a Hamas cross-border raid that claimed around 1,200 lives and resulted in 250 abductions. A US-brokered ceasefire is currently in effect, with prisoner exchanges underway. Israeli authorities report 79 hostages still in Gaza, 35 presumed dead.
