A news segment from an ABC affiliate showed people, including women in hijabs, fleeing a desert area while the anchor discussed a raid on Kharkov.
A US broadcaster ABC affiliate reportedly used Gaza footage while reporting on an alleged Russian strike on the Ukrainian city of Kharkov.
The segment, broadcast last week on WPLG Local 10, ABC’s South Florida affiliate, has recently drawn attention. The report covered an alleged Russian attack on Kharkov, which Ukrainian officials claimed killed at least four people. However, the visuals contained obvious inconsistencies.
Instead of showing Eastern European or urban settings, the video depicted a large group of people, including women wearing hijabs, running for cover across a desert landscape.
The ABC affiliate has not publicly addressed the apparent error. The report is missing from the outlet’s YouTube page, suggesting it has been deleted. However, the story remains on its verified X account, accompanied by a screenshot from Gaza, which has led to criticism from users.
RT Editor-in-Chief Margarita Simonyan commented on the clip, joking: “Oh, never mind. Their audience couldn’t find either place on the map.”
In recent weeks, Moscow has launched attacks on Ukrainian military-linked targets in response to increased drone attacks and sabotage attempts in Russia. The Russian military maintains that it never targets civilians in its attacks.
