HANOVER, Germany, Dec. 1, 2025 — XAG is pushing forward the trend of automation in specialty crop farming with the worldwide introduction of the R Series Agricultural Rover. This all-electric ground robot is designed for use in orchards, vineyards, and greenhouses where standard machinery isn’t suitable. By combining smart navigation with precise spraying, the XAG R Series helps farmers cut down on labor and operational expenses, while increasing productivity through easily accessible and highly efficient automation.

Specialty crops, like fruits, vegetables, and greenhouse-grown produce, are crucial for agricultural expansion and farmer earnings. They have a high value per hectare but need careful management to ensure good yields and quality. As the demand for fresh and nutritious food grows, farmers are using smart technologies to boost efficiency and profits. According to the USDA Economic Research Service, about 38% of production costs on specialty crop farms are related to labor. This heavy reliance on labor is fueling the quick adoption of automation, making orchards and greenhouses some of the fastest-growing and most technologically advanced areas.

XAG created the R Series to address these changing demands, drawing on years of experience in agricultural automation. Using their expertise in accurate spraying and user-friendly operation, the R Series offers two models designed for different crop environments.

The XAG R100 Agricultural Rover is made for crops planted close together, such as greenhouse vegetables. It has a small frame, a 120-liter tank, four-wheel drive, and two JetSprayers that can deliver up to 8 liters per minute. It can operate at full capacity for 30 minutes on a single charge. The R200 Agricultural Rover, which has a 240-liter tank, six-wheel drive, and four JetSprayers, offers more capacity and reach for orchards and vineyards with wider spacing, providing 15 minutes of full-load operation per charge.

Both models use XAG’s centrifugal JetSprayer technology, which creates fine droplets (60–200 microns) for consistent coverage while reducing drift and chemical usage. With a horizontal spray range of up to seven meters on each side, the rover works efficiently between crop rows, reducing the number of passes needed and saving time, energy, and resources.

The rover is built on an all-aluminum chassis with a suspended portal axle, ensuring stable traction and balance on rough ground. Its compact size, with a width of 80 centimeters, allows it to move smoothly between dense rows, reducing soil compaction and protecting fragile plants. The R100 weighs 80 kilograms with RevoSpray installed, while the R200 weighs 130 kilograms under the same setup. Both offer strong stability with a 20 percent maximum gradeability.

The SRC 5 Smart Remote Controller manages operation, combining touchscreen navigation, dual-joystick precision, and real-time FPV monitoring. This smart interface allows operators to stay safely outside the application area while keeping complete control over field activities.

The R Series is based on intelligent control for onboard automation. Features include Cruise Mode, Path Tracking, and Repeat Mode. The RealTerra onboard mapping system works with this control suite to capture high-resolution images during the initial manual pass, creating a detailed overhead view of the field. This map enables route planning with centimeter-level accuracy, allowing for precise and autonomous operation. In addition, AI safety assistance continuously monitors the environment in real time, detecting obstacles and pedestrians and adjusting the rover’s movements to ensure reliable performance.

For farmers dealing with labor shortages or increasing workloads, the R Series turns repetitive field tasks into efficient, automated operations. Its expandable platform supports DIY customization for tasks like weeding and transport, making it a dependable smart-farm assistant for managing high-value crops.
