SHANGHAI, Nov. 28, 2025 — On November 24, Shanghai Electric (SEHK: 2727, SSE: 601727) officially inaugurated the Sino-Pakistan Academy of Excellence for Engineers (referred to as the “Academy”). This joint endeavor with Shanghai Dianji University seeks to develop engineers who are globally competitive, possess interdisciplinary skills, and are adaptable. It also strives to establish a crucial platform for technological and cultural interchange between China and Pakistan.

The inauguration ceremony was held concurrently online and offline, spanning three sites across both nations. During the event, delegates from the Thar Block-I integrated coal mine and power project (the “Thar Project”) and Shanghai Dianji University formalized a cooperation agreement for the initial phase of the training curriculum, thereby commencing the talent development program.

Zhu Zhaokai, President of Shanghai Electric Group, noted that in the context of significant shifts within the global industrial environment, companies increasingly require adaptable professionals who possess strong theoretical knowledge, practical engineering experience, an international outlook, and capabilities for cross-cultural cooperation.

“Establishing the Academy represents a key endeavor by Shanghai Electric to foster profound integration across industry, academia, research, and practical application, alongside developing an international talent development framework,” he stated. “By utilizing Shanghai Dianji University’s academic expertise in advanced manufacturing, we intend to enhance collaborative research, hands-on instruction, and faculty exchange, collectively pioneering a fresh approach to nurturing global talent within the ‘Belt and Road’ Initiative.”

Gong Siyi, President of Shanghai Dianji University, conveyed that the Academy would be treated as a high-priority, pivotal overseas demonstration project. The university is dedicated to upholding rigorous standards for its talent development frameworks, instructional excellence, and comprehensive support services by integrating top-tier faculty and educational assets.

“Our objective is to position the Academy as an essential link for fostering China-Pakistan camaraderie and technological partnership,” she commented.

Serving as the inaugural enterprise-driven international engineering talent program within the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) structure, the Academy plans to deliver customized master’s programs tailored to the requirements of the Thar Project, emphasizing energy and electrical engineering. By implementing dual mentorships involving both academics and industry specialists, it will prepare participants to tackle practical issues by merging theoretical knowledge with hands-on application.

Over recent years, Shanghai Electric has placed significant emphasis on structured talent development and strategic foresight in the Academy’s establishment. This includes intensifying industry-academia partnerships to cultivate an innovative ecosystem centered on global perspectives and advanced technological convergence.

Operating as a collaborative industry-education talent development platform formed by Shanghai Electric Group and Shanghai Dianji University, the Shanghai Electric Academy of Excellence for Engineers has, since its launch in 2024, concentrated on empowering technology experts and fostering highly skilled professionals. The Institute is dedicated to creating a robust succession of future technological leaders.

The Tech Expert Symposium, the Academy’s initial flagship program, functions as an exclusive forum for prominent experts and academics to facilitate knowledge exchange, technical partnership, and talent advancement. Since its inception, it has hosted five events highlighting leading technological trends and valuable engineering perspectives.

Underpinning Shanghai Electric’s forward-thinking talent approach is a steadfast dedication to technological progress and human resource development amid this era of swift change. In just the first half of 2025, the organization allocated 2.546 billion CNY to R&D—representing a 9.4% year-over-year rise, equivalent to 4.7% of its total earnings—with 39.5% of these funds channeled into burgeoning industries.

To uphold accelerated innovation, Shanghai Electric has established, and will continue to uphold, talent as its primary strategic asset, redesigning its development framework to assemble a formidable, well-organized workforce.
