The 21st China International Agricultural Trade Fair (CATF), hosted by the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs, concluded its run in Guangzhou on December 1st, 2024. The event drew over 100,000 attendees and nearly 50,000 buyers, marking a record high. Preliminary figures indicate 539 letters of intent were signed, totaling 23.6 billion yuan in potential contract value.

This year’s CATF showcased numerous agricultural advancements:

Its enhanced role in trade promotion was evident through the display of over 20,000 product types across 12 exhibition areas by nearly 3,000 businesses. A national agricultural products buyers’ alliance was formed, and a production-sales matchmaking zone facilitated numerous successful sales initiatives, including a “vegetable basket” promotion and the promotion of specialty products from poverty-alleviated regions into the Greater Bay Area.

Guangdong province facilitated targeted matchmaking for 3,000 Greater Bay Area buyers. Extensive live-streaming by domestic and international influencers generated 120 million yuan in online sales.

A new rural assistance area featured nearly 300 businesses from poverty-alleviated regions. Initial data suggests over 100 million yuan in potential contract value and more than 60 letters of intent for industrial services in production, processing, and branding.

The fair’s leadership in the agricultural sector was strengthened through forums, press conferences, and information-sharing sessions focusing on modern, green, and smart agriculture, along with farmer financial support. Over 40 additional events addressed agricultural brands, cold chain logistics, and smart agriculture. A report on agricultural product cold chain logistics at origin and a list of high-quality agricultural brand cultivation plans were also released.

Its international presence was significantly enhanced with dedicated international exhibition and meeting areas, and a food street. Over 60 businesses from 15 countries exhibited hundreds of agricultural products. Kazakhstan, the guest country, established several economic and trade cooperation agreements with Chinese regions in grain and oil processing, livestock, and feed production. The event provided a platform for global buyers to expand their networks.

The fair’s impact was amplified by a comprehensive media strategy, engaging nearly 100 Chinese and 50 foreign media outlets. Over 20,000 media reports generated over 200 million views and reads.
