The inaugural Tremella Industry Development Conference commenced on December 5th in Gutian County, Fujian Province. Organized by the People’s Government of Gutian County and the Ningde City Agriculture and Rural Affairs Bureau, the conference brought together global experts, academics, and industry leaders to chart the future of Tremella cultivation.
Gutian County Party Secretary Zhang Chenghui highlighted Gutian’s long history with Tremella cultivation, emphasizing its transformation from traditional methods to advanced bag cultivation techniques, leading to its dominant position in global production. He underscored Gutian’s commitment to leveraging Tremella production for rural revitalization and economic growth, noting that Gutian now produces 90% of China’s and 85% of the world’s Tremella.
Gutian’s sustained efforts have established its edible fungi industry as a key economic driver, resulting in national recognition through various awards including the National Demonstration Zone for Export-Quality Edible Fungi and others.
Ningde City Party Secretary Liang Weixin lauded Gutian Tremella’s global impact and highlighted initiatives like the “Eight Ones” program and the development of “Four Parks” in bolstering the industry’s reputation and reach.
Chinese Academy of Engineering Academician Li Yu emphasized the significant role of edible fungi in poverty alleviation both domestically and internationally, citing China’s collaboration with Zambia as a successful example of “South-South Cooperation.” He stressed the need for innovation across the entire industry chain to support China’s food security goals.
Gutian is actively pursuing its ambition to become the “World Capital of Tremella,” leveraging its established China-Gutian Edible Fungi Wholesale Market, e-commerce park, and high production and sales rate.
Greg Seymour, President of the International Society for Mushroom Science, presented Gutian with a certificate recognizing it as the “Birthplace of Bag-Cultivated Tremella.”
The conference also included the launch of the “China Rural Revitalization International Cooperation Laboratory,” an international training program, and the release of several key indices. Furthermore, a research agreement on traditional Chinese medicine-grade Tremella standards, the launch of international Tremella standards development, and several roundtable discussions were held.
