Geelong, Victoria Jul 29, 2024 – The Team Approach, a leading provider of Employee Assistance Programs (EAP) and workplace wellbeing services, is excited to announce significant developments and expansions as part of its ongoing commitment to fostering mentally healthy workplaces across Australia.
Agency Growth and New Services
In response to the increasing demand for comprehensive mental health and wellbeing support in the workplace, The Team Approach is expanding its range of services. This includes the introduction of new team members, expanded services, and innovative support programs designed to meet the evolving needs of modern workplaces.
Exciting Developments in Progress
The Team Approach is expanding its counselling services to include a broader spectrum of support, such as specialised psychological services. This ensures that employees have access to a diverse range of professional support tailored to their unique needs.
The Team Approach is thrilled to welcome several new professionals to their team, including experienced psychologists and counsellors. These new team members bring a wealth of knowledge and expertise, further strengthening the agency’s ability to provide high-quality support to businesses and their employees.
Louise Lugsdin, the founder of The Team Approach, is passionate about mental health and workplaces embracing the concept to save money and lives, not just the bottom line. She emphasises the agency’s dedication to expanding its services to better serve Australian workplaces. “Our goal has always been to provide comprehensive support that addresses the diverse needs of employees. By expanding our team and services, we are better positioned to help businesses create healthier, more supportive work environments,” says Lugsdin. “It’s a common misconception that counselling is only necessary during crises. A qualified counsellor can assist with goal setting, stress management, conflict resolution, and providing a confidential space for employees to discuss their concerns, I want organisations to really understand this is a no brainer. EAP saves money, and helps people.”
According to the latest , 42 percent of individuals who needed to see a mental health professional either delayed or did not see one in 2022-23. Of those, 28 percent cited cost as a prohibitive factor, with each visit often exceeding $200. Employee stress, stemming from both workplace and personal issues such as grief, divorce, or conflicts, can severely impact productivity. Absenteeism and presenteeism — where employees are present but not fully productive — pose substantial costs to businesses.
Lugsdin explains, “We did the maths. In Australia, the average wage as of 2024 is approximately AUD 89,122 per year. Employees typically take six unscheduled absence days annually, costing a business with 12 employees around AUD 24,678.16 per year. The hidden costs of presenteeism are even more alarming. According to , a fully disengaged employee costs 34% of their annual salary, amounting to AUD 30,301.48 per disengaged employee. So if we take a workplace of 12 employees, and if only four members are disengaged, the cost is approximately AUD 121,205.92 per year to that business. Combined, absenteeism and presenteeism cost a business with 12 employees around AUD 145,884.08 a year and this isn’t including the additional expense of hiring new staff if someone quits.”
Future Plans and Innovations
In light of the ongoing changes in work environments, The Team Approach is developing virtual support services to ensure employees can access counselling and wellbeing support remotely. This includes online counselling sessions and online wellbeing workshops.
The Team Approach is also actively seeking to build partnerships with community organisations and corporate entities to broaden the reach of their services and create a more substantial impact on workplace wellbeing across Australia.
