Belt and Road Legal Services Association Launched in Xiamen

Xiamen, Fujian Province, April 4, 2025 – The International Forum on Belt and Road Legal Services commenced on March 30 in Xiamen, Fujian Province. Leading up to the forum, the inaugural council, along with the chairperson, vice-chairpersons, and secretary-general, were elected for the Belt and Road International Legal Services Association.

The establishment of the Belt and Road International Legal Services Association is a practical step towards enhancing international collaboration and exchange in the realm of the rule of law under the Belt and Road Initiative. The association reportedly includes industry associations, legal organizations, and individuals from Belt and Road Initiative countries and regions specializing in law, arbitration, and commercial mediation. It stands as the first international professional body in the field of the rule of law named after the Belt and Road Initiative. It will effectively consolidate comprehensive legal service resources, encompassing lawyers, arbitration, and commercial mediation, to deliver high-quality legal support for economic, trade, and cultural interactions among participating nations, thereby improving service and ensuring the sustained, high-quality development of the Belt and Road Initiative in the long run.

Currently, Chinese law firms operate 207 branches across 37 countries and regions, including 73 branches in 24 countries participating in the BRI. China has established 284 arbitration institutions with over 60,000 arbitrators, collectively managing over 5 million cases involving approximately 9 trillion yuan. The parties involved in these cases represent more than 100 countries and regions globally.
