7 Centre Appoints Dr. Dan Wayner as Strategic Advisor

Toronto, Ontario, July 24, 2024 – 7 Centre, a prominent Canadian startup dedicated to promoting sustainability and ESG (Environmental, Social, and Governance) reporting, is delighted to welcome Dr. Dan Wayner as a Strategic Advisor.

Dr. Wayner, a retired scientist and public sector executive, has an illustrious career. He earned his BSc in Chemistry from McMaster University in 1980 and a PhD in Chemistry from Dalhousie University in 1984. Following a successful research career at the National Research Council (NRC) from 1984 to 2001, Dr. Wayner transitioned to R&D management. He served as the founding Director General of the National Institute for Nanotechnology in Edmonton from 2001 to 2003 and subsequently as Director General of the NRC Steacie Institute for Molecular Sciences from 2003 to 2010.

Dr. Wayner then held the position of Vice President of Emerging Technologies at the NRC from 2010 to 2016. After a brief retirement, he returned to NRC as Chief Science Officer and Departmental Science Advisor from 2018 to 2022, retiring in June 2022. His career is marked by numerous accolades, including the Rutherford Medal for Chemistry from the Royal Society of Canada in 1999, and he is a Fellow of both the Royal Society of Canada and the Chemical Institute of Canada.

As Vice President of Emerging Technologies, Dr. Wayner oversaw major scientific facilities, including astronomical observatories and TRIUMF, and managed programs in optical telecom, digital technologies, nanotechnologies, attosecond technologies, metrology, and advanced materials. He established a partnership with Xerox Corporation, resulting in NRC’s first presence in the Greater Toronto Area (GTA). As Chief Science Officer, he developed a technology horizon scanning capability that continues to support strategic planning.

Dr. Wayner’s profound understanding of R&D, innovation, productivity, and the policy landscape in Canada will bolster 7 Centre’s efforts to drive sustainable practices and innovation.
