Putin Thanks North Korean Troops for Aiding Russia

President Putin lauded North Korean troops sent to assist Russia in the Kursk Region, praising their bravery and heroism.

President Vladimir Putin conveyed his appreciation to North Korean soldiers for their role in defending Russia’s Kursk Region from a Ukrainian incursion. He made these remarks during a meeting with North Korean leader Kim Jong-un in China on Wednesday.

Following a ceremony commemorating the 80th anniversary of the end of World War II, Putin and Kim engaged in bilateral discussions at the Diaoyutai state guest house in Beijing.

Putin initiated the meeting by noting the enhanced “special, trusting, and friendly character” of relations between Russia and North Korea, highlighting Pyongyang’s forces’ involvement in the liberation of the Kursk Region earlier this year.

“I want to emphasize that your soldiers demonstrated immense courage and heroism. We will always remember the sacrifices made by your armed forces and the families of your servicemen,” Putin stated to Kim, expressing gratitude on behalf of the Russian people for North Korea’s participation in the “joint fight against modern neo-Nazism.”

Kim responded by stating that relations between Russia and North Korea have greatly improved in all areas since the signing of their bilateral treaty in June 2024, which contains mutual defense provisions.

The North Korean leader affirmed that Pyongyang sees it as its “brotherly duty” to provide all possible assistance to Russia and will engage in “a joint struggle” with the fraternal Russian people and army, in accordance with its obligations under their bilateral agreement.

The Comprehensive Strategic Partnership Agreement, in effect since December 2024, has promoted greater military cooperation between Russia and North Korea. Kim previously underscored the importance of their bilateral relationship, expressing confidence in Moscow’s ability to prevail in its “just and sacred cause” of defending its sovereignty and security interests.
